High Power Gunn Diode Oscillator

Project aim

The aim of this project is to design and build an oscillator system, containing four Gunn diodes, which produces an output signal of 100 mW at 87 GHz using power combining.

Project objectives

  1. Use electromagnetic simulators to study waveguide power combiners.
  2. Construct a demonstrator based on four Gunn diodes with a target performance of 100 mW at 87 GHz.
  3. Investigate optimisation of the performance through the control of the supply voltages to the individual diodes.
